Stoke Golding Liberal Club & Institute was founded in 1929, making 2019 the Clubs’ 90th year.
The committee are keen to celebrate this milestone especially with Stoke Golding Club being one of the oldest in the area. A program of events has been planned and you may have noticed an increase in activities this year which all forms part of our celebrations. The high points are to be the Family Fun Day on the 25th August with music and entertainment for everyone.
The hugely popular New Years Eve Party feature a double bill of live acts and tickets are sure to sell out fast. In between we have more live music, bands, big money bingo, comedy and so much more. Check out our posts on the site and keep an eye on our Facebook page for regular updates and announcements.

All are welcome to join us from 11am at the Club where we’ll have a bouncy castle, charity stalls, food, music, face painting, a wide range of beverages (alcohol served from 12pm), and much more to be announced
In Conjunction with Stoke Golding village Scarecrow Festival committee which is also being held on Sunday 25th, visitors can follow the maps and trails to find Scarecrows around the village and vote for their favourite, the winner to be announced in the evening at the Club.
Karaoke & Disco from 8pm
Our resident DJ is hosting a great night for club members with Karaoke and Disco as we round off the days celebrations in the Thornfield Suite.
The club was founded in 1929 when locals purchased former hunting lodge Thornfield House and opened the club to members who could enjoy a rest from days working the land or in the factories of surrounding hosiery manufacturing industry.
Although little is known about its early days, in more recent times the club has evolved to serve the community and its loyal members by the addition of “the concert room” or Thornfield Suite as it is now known, renamed for the 90th anniversary.
The Thornfield Suite function room has become a very successful addition to the club and is in high demand for hire for everything from christenings, birthday parties, wedding receptions, anniversary’s, disco’s, presentations, the Garden Show, the Orchid Society Show, Halloween, New Years Eve, major Football and sporting events, and corporate events such as conferences and meetings. Organised outings for members were once a regular fixture though less common these days we still organise outings to the races.
We cannot forget our Easter Bonnet work shop and Bonnet Parade and the Kids Christmas Party with entertainment plus a special visit from Santa is very popular with members.
Like any club, regular games meetings are a mainstay of Stoke Golding Club. Dominoes, Darts, Pool, indoor bowls and more. More details of these games can be found on the notice boards in the lobby.
Something for everyone
Open to non members we have our monthly Quiz night on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Every Tuesday is Strictly Jitterbug and every Thursday is Salsa dance.
Every Wednesday night is Acoustic Jam night, and once a month we have a Saturday Night Open Mic night featuring great live music in the bar. Our Friday Night Bingo is very popular, you really should give it a go, and for really great night we also have Bingo Bonanza once a month which has big money jackpots and entertainment too.
Serving the community
Saturday Morning if you fancy Coffee & Cake pop into the club. Everyone is welcome you don’t have to be a member. Sample our homemade cakes and fresh coffee (or tea, or pop) from 11am until 2pm. Our coffee morning already proved to be a hit with the community, something they tell us the village was crying out for.
As we said all are welcome though we do recommend joining the club which is simple to do. By becoming a member you will benefit from member exclusive events, entertainment and of course lower priced drinks.
As you can see there is plenty to celebrate about the club – here’s to the next 90 years!
Appeal for photographic memories of yesteryear
We are sure there are many memories and photos of events, parties and good times that have been enjoyed at the club over the years and we’d love to see them. Our intention is to create a mural for one of the walls in the club to show others what a great club it has been over the years, and will continue to be for its members well into the future. If you have anything you to share please contact a committee member or ask the staff.
New 7 week Absolute Beginners Swing Jive Course Starts Tuesday 2nd April at Stoke Golding Club
What a fabulous, fun way to get fit and make friends! Please note there are No Throws or Aerials in Social Dancing!
Our style is East Coast Swing, (which came out in 1932) with some Lindy Hop and 1920’s Charleston. This style is also called Jitterbug, and was very popular in the 1940’s. It also became the chosen style for early Rock and Roll music. Most of the dancing is partner dancing, but some is done on an individual basis, called strolling. You do not need to bring a dance partner, but please bring a friend. We are a social club!
